CSL is seeking a Senior Plant Engineer to lead and support the engineering function within our Melbourne R&D site. This role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of critical process equipment, utilities, and building systems that support our research and development activities.
You’ll work at the intersection of process engineering, plant operations, and compliance, providing hands‑on technical leadership while contributing to the strategic direction of Engineering Services.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services – Building Operations & Services, you will lead day‑to‑day plant engineering support across the CSL Melbourne site. The role has a strong focus on process utilities (e.g. WFI, pure steam, lab water), process equipment, and building utilities, and includes direct leadership of engineers and coordination of external contractors.
This is an on‑site role requiring strong technical expertise, proactive problem‑solving, and close collaboration with R&D, Engineering, and Global Engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day process and plant engineering support for the CSL Melbourne site
- Lead maintenance, troubleshooting, shutdowns, start‑ups, and operational interventions for process equipment and utilities
- Monitor plant condition and performance, identifying trends and proactively managing reliability and maintenance demands
- Manage work orders and maintenance schedules in collaboration with planners and the Engineering Services team
- Lead investigations, responses, and close‑out of utility‑ and equipment‑related deviations and non‑conformances
- Ensure asset and system data is accurate and maintained within the asset management system
- Act as a key liaison between R&D and Global Engineering / Broadmeadows Engineering teams
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with cGMP requirements, cleanroom principles, and safety standards
- Participate in on‑call support, including out‑of‑hours alarm response as required
About You
You are a technically strong plant or process engineer with experience operating in regulated manufacturing or R&D environments.
You will bring:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 5–7 years’ experience in plant or facilities operations (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of process utilities (e.g. WFI, pure steam, HVAC) and plant systems
- Experience with complex process equipment such as bioreactors, filling lines, or similar systems (preferred)
- Understanding of maintenance strategies, shutdown planning, and asset criticality
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (FDA, TGA, OGTR) and quality/validation systems
- Experience with automation or process control systems (e.g. Siemens PCS7) (preferred)
Working Environment
- Based full‑time on site at CSL Melbourne (5 days per week)
- Some flexibility in working hours, with occasional overtime or weekend work required
- Occasional on‑call support and after‑hours availability
