Health, Safety & Wellbeing Manager – Global Phase 1 Clinical Trials Specialist
Your Mission: Champion a Global Culture of Care & Operational Safety
At Nucleus Network, our ground-breaking Phase 1 clinical trials are the critical first step in advancing tomorrow's medicines. Our unique position as the only global specialist in this field demands an equally unique commitment: an unwavering, proactive culture of safety and wellbeing for our teams across Australia, the USA, and the UK.
We are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Manager to be the architect and guardian of this culture. Based in Melbourne or Brisbane, you will be the strategic and operational leader, embedded within our People & Culture team. Your mission is to ensure that every employee, in every facility, can contribute to our life-saving work within an environment that is not only compliant but fundamentally caring and secure. If you are driven by the challenge of translating policy into daily practice and believe that true safety empowers excellence, this global role is your platform.
Your Impact: Build and Safeguard Our Global Operational Foundation
You will own the end-to-end health, safety, and wellbeing framework, ensuring it is robust, responsive, and woven into the fabric of our daily operations across three continents.
1. Lead Global Risk & Compliance Strategy
- Conduct proactive workplace inspections and risk assessments across our clinical facilities in Australia, the US, and the UK, identifying unique hazards in a Phase 1 research environment—from bio-safety to volunteer care.
- Maintain and evolve global risk registers, ensuring corrective actions are tracked to completion and local legislative requirements (WHS, OSHA, UK HSE) are not just met, but integrated into a single, coherent safety philosophy.
- Act as the subject matter expert during regulatory inspections and audits, preparing our sites and leading a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Drive Incident Management & Proactive Prevention
- Own the global incident reporting and investigation process, conducting thorough root cause analyses to implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence and strengthen our systems.
- Maintain meticulous records and prepare insightful reports for leadership, transforming data into actionable safety intelligence.
- Coordinate injury and illness management with care and diligence, overseeing case management, return-to-work programs, and liaising with external health providers to support full employee recovery.
3. Foster a Living Culture of Safety & Wellbeing
- Facilitate meaningful HSW consultation through safety committees and engagements, ensuring every team member has a voice in their own safety.
- Design and deliver engaging, practical compliance education and training programs that resonate with clinical and operational staff.
- Champion and shape employee wellbeing initiatives, integrating support systems that foster both physical and psychological health across all jurisdictions.
Who You Are: A Strategic Partner with Operational Grit
You are a pragmatic and influential safety leader. You understand that the best systems are those that work seamlessly on the clinic floor. You build trust at all levels, communicate with clarity and empathy, and are driven by a genuine commitment to people.
Your Mandatory Foundation
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of operational HSW experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in clinical research, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or similarly high-stakes, regulated environments.
- Expert knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, coupled with the ability to navigate and apply OSHA (US) and HSE (UK) frameworks.
- Proven hands-on experience in risk management, incident investigation, and delivering effective HSW training.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills to engage diverse, global teams.
Your Desired Strengths
- Certificate IV in WHS or equivalent.
- Practical experience with digital HSW management systems and reporting tools.
- A demonstrated passion for developing and supporting holistic employee wellbeing programs.
- The resilience and cultural fluency to manage priorities across multiple time zones and legal jurisdictions.
