We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to provide critical engineering and technical leadership for laboratory equipment and utilities at our Melbourne R&D site. In this vital role, you will ensure our research laboratories operate safely, reliably, and in full compliance with GxP standards, directly supporting groundbreaking scientific work.
Your Role: The Technical Anchor for Laboratory Operations
You will be the engineering expert for laboratory systems, troubleshooting complex issues, managing service partners, and maintaining compliance to ensure our scientists have the robust, reliable infrastructure they need.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Systems Management:
- Provide engineering expertise and support for laboratory equipment (e.g., bioreactors, chromatography systems) and associated utilities (WFI, PFS, HVAC, SCADA).
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex plant, utility, and equipment issues, supporting shutdowns and start-ups.
- Manage external service providers to ensure equipment remains operational, calibrated, and compliant.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate equipment records, calibration data, and maintenance history within the CMMS (SAP PM).
- Lead the investigation and closure of equipment-related deviations and non-conformances.
- Support audit readiness for TGA and OGTR inspections.
- Develop and review technical documentation including process flow diagrams and schematics.
Operational Support & Collaboration:
- Act as the key technical liaison between CSL R&D, Engineering Services, and third-party suppliers.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to alarms outside of standard business hours when required.
- Apply knowledge of regulatory frameworks including TGA, OGTR, PIC/s, FDA, and EMEA.
Your Experience
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical, Biochemical, Mechanical) or higher.
- Hands-on experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology laboratories, or other regulated plant operations.
- Strong working knowledge of GxP standards, laboratory compliance, and regulated facilities (PC2/BC2).
- Experience supporting critical engineering systems and utilities in a regulated environment.
- Sound understanding of relevant Australian and global regulatory frameworks.
Highly Regarded Skills:
- Experience with SAP PM, Siemens PCS7, shutdown planning, and preventative maintenance programs.
