The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned, licensed legal professional to join us as APAC Legal Counsel. This is a strategic regional role for an individual with a minimum of five years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or MedTech industry. You will be the key legal partner for the APAC region, managing a broad portfolio from corporate governance and commercial contracts to regulatory compliance, data privacy, and IP. Beyond legal expertise, we seek a strategic advisor with strong emotional intelligence, experience in agile methodologies, and a talent for leveraging technology—someone who can navigate complexity and drive pragmatic solutions in a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) environment.
Your Mission: Strategic Legal Partner for the APAC Region
As the APAC Legal Counsel, you will be the cornerstone for all regional legal matters, providing trusted advice, managing risk, and enabling business growth while upholding Roche's highest standards of ethics and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Comprehensive Legal Advisory & Business Partnership
- Provide a full spectrum of corporate and commercial legal services to in-house clients across the APAC region.
- Advise on regulatory compliance, data privacy (GDPR/local laws), intellectual property, digital law, competition law, employment law, and contract management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including digital product licenses, supply, distribution, and collaboration agreements.
- Act as a strategic advisor on legal issues involving government and regulatory interactions.
2. External Counsel Management & Legal Operations
- Coordinate and monitor all legal matters handled by external counsel, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality service.
- Manage and update the regional legal panel based on evolving organizational needs.
- Coordinate required legal training for APAC affiliate employees, fostering a strong culture of compliance.
3. Network Contribution & Strategic Influence
- Actively contribute to the APAC Legal Network and Communities of Practice (CoPs), sharing knowledge and driving regional consistency.
- Employ strategic thinking and influencing skills to guide business decisions and simplify complex legal landscapes.
- Leverage technology to enable effective collaboration within virtual, cross-functional teams.
Who You Are: The Ideal Candidate
You are more than a lawyer; you are a business-savvy, empathetic, and agile strategic partner who thrives on enabling progress in a dynamic global environment.
Your Required Profile:
- A law degree and a license to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as an in-house counsel or in a law firm with a dedicated practice serving Pharmaceutical and/or MedTech companies.
- Strong emotional intelligence (EQ) with the ability to build caring connections and function as a true team player.
- Experience in agile ways of working and methodologies.
- Savvy in leveraging technology to empower virtual teams and streamline legal processes.
- A proactive, entrepreneurial spirit with a strong sense of pragmatism.
- Excellent analytical, moderation, and presentation skills.
- A growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, and an out-of-the-box thinker who embraces diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Co-active coaching fundamentals or similar certification.
- Deep experience in one or more of the following: APAC regulatory affairs, digital health, data privacy, or M&A.
