This senior role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge data technology and life-changing scientific research. You will be responsible for collaborating with the R&D function within the Corporate IT Data and Analytics team, designing and implementing the software and data infrastructure that turns complex clinical and research data into actionable insights. Your work will directly contribute to accelerating drug development and improving patient outcomes.
Your Mission: Design, Build, and Optimize the R&D Data Fabric
You will be the technical expert responsible for the full lifecycle of data solutions—from analysis and design to development, deployment, and optimization—specifically for R&D and clinical trials data.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
1. Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design and develop robust ETL/ELT mappings and workflows using Qlik Replicate/Compose or Informatica.
- Architect and implement data warehouse solutions on Microsoft Azure, utilizing services like Azure SQL, Synapse, Databricks, and Analysis Services.
- Apply Kimball’s Dimensional Modeling techniques and ensure high Data Quality using tools like Informatica Data Quality.
- Translate logical designs into physical architectures, considering performance, security, and integration with existing systems.
2. Software Development & Technical Leadership
- Design, code, test, and document complex programs and scripts to achieve well-engineered results.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to Software Engineers, and lead reviews of colleagues' work.
- Adhere to and produce key artifacts for the software development process (technical specs, data models, release notes).
- Support release management and live deployments using versioning tools like SVN/Git.
3. Business Partnership & Consulting
- Analyze business processes and data requirements to establish and modify data structures, advising development teams on optimal design.
- Support technical consulting activities for clients in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Design and support clinical trials information sharing solutions, ensuring compliance and efficacy.
Who You Are: The Technical Expert & Collaborator
You are a seasoned data professional who combines deep technical expertise with a client-focused, collaborative approach.
Knowledge and Experience (Required):
- Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Math, etc.) or equivalent project experience.
- Proven relevant experience in systems integration, implementation, or software development, preferably within pharmaceutical R&D or clinical trials.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data components: Azure SQL, Synapse, Analysis Services is essential.
- Strong ETL/ELT development experience with Qlik Replicate/Compose or Informatica.
- Expert database development skills (SQL) and experience with large datasets in cloud environments.
- Experience with data warehouse design, dimensional modeling, and improving data quality.
- Experience working in Agile development methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
Skills & Additional Experience (Preferred):
- Experience with Informatica DVO for testing or SPARX EA, UML, TOGAF for enterprise architecture.
- Experience debugging complex software systems and working in high-pressure, deadline-oriented environments.
- A strong understanding of security principles in application and data architecture.
- Willingness to work in a matrix team environment, valuing teamwork and collaboration.
