Job Summary
This is a high-impact opportunity to join ResMed’s NPI Manufacturing Engineering team and play a key role in designing production systems that scale globally.
In this role, you won’t just support manufacturing — you’ll architect it. From early prototype builds through production ramp, you will design, validate, and deploy manufacturing systems that become the standard production model across ResMed’s global manufacturing network.
The role offers clear growth into end-to-end production line and system ownership, exposure to complex cross-functional decision-making, and the chance to influence how products are built — not just where problems are fixed.
Role Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer within the NPI team, you will translate product design intent into a robust, repeatable, and scalable manufacturing process. You will partner closely with diverse functions internally as well as external equipment suppliers and system integrators.
Your focus will be on manufacturability-by-design, production system architecture, equipment strategy, and readiness for global deployment — ensuring new products meet yield, throughput, cost, quality, and OHS requirements from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing System & Line Architecture (Ownership)
- Define end-to-end production process flow, station strategy, and line architecture for new products
- Develop line layout inputs, station capacity assumptions, takt time and cycle time models
- Make informed automation vs manual trade-off decisions aligned to volume, cost, and scalability needs
- Ensure production system designs are scalable and transferable across global manufacturing sites
Equipment Strategy & Line Specification (Ownership)
- Lead equipment strategy including URS/SOW development, vendor engagement, and technical alignment
- Drive vendor selection, FAT/SAT planning, commissioning approach, and site handover
- Define spares, maintenance concepts, safety requirements, and documentation standards
- Coordinate and technically lead equipment suppliers and system integrators
NPI Build Execution & Ramp Readiness
- Support and lead prototype, pilot, and ramp builds, enabling rapid learning and iteration
- Drive data-driven root cause analysis and continuous improvement during NPI builds
- Support basic equipment and fixture bring-up, commissioning, and debug activities
- Identify and close gaps to achieve production readiness targets
Manufacturability-by-Design & Validation
- Partner with Product Development to influence assembly architecture, tolerance stack-ups, part handling, fixturing strategy, and process controls
- Ensure manufacturing solutions meet yield, throughput, and cost targets
- Complete process validation activities and develop validation-ready documentation
- Introduce and maintain production procedures and work instructions
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement quality and efficiency improvements using GMP, LEAN, and Six Sigma principles
- Ensure adherence to OHS requirements and safe equipment design
- Represent Manufacturing in cross-functional forums and design reviews
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Build strong internal and external working relationships across functions and suppliers
- Clearly communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs; escalate early with data-based options
- Occasionally lead project teams and formally train or mentor junior engineers
- Set technical standards and contribute to best-practice manufacturing approaches
What Success Looks Like
- Manufacturing systems are designed right the first time, not retrofitted later
- NPI builds progress smoothly with clear learning cycles and rapid issue closure
- Production lines meet readiness targets for yield, throughput, cost, quality, and safety
- Developed manufacturing solutions become the standard deployable model globally
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in NPI or complex production environments
- Strong understanding of production systems, equipment integration, and manufacturing fundamentals
- Developing professional expertise with the ability to apply company policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues
Preferred
- Experience designing or owning manufacturing lines or automated equipment
- Exposure to regulated manufacturing environments (medical, pharma, electronics, automotive, etc.)
- Experience working with external equipment suppliers or system integrators
Ideal Candidate Profile
Functional Skills
- Manufacturing line architecture and end-to-end system ownership
- Equipment strategy, specification, and supplier leadership
- Production line readiness fundamentals (layout, capacity, line balance, takt/cycle time)
- NPI build execution, pilot builds, and data-driven problem solving
- Equipment and fixture bring-up and commissioning support
Behaviours & Competencies
- Thrives in fast-paced NPI environments and on the factory floor
- Strong ownership mindset with disciplined follow-through
- Clear, confident communicator who escalates early and constructively
- Influential cross-functional partner who shapes both product and manufacturing decisions
- Practical risk manager who makes sound trade-offs under pressure
- Emerging technical leader who mentors others and sets standards
