The Role
We are seeking a strategic leader for the role of Director / Senior Manager, R&D Digital Portfolio Management. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and governance of the digital initiative portfolio within R&D. This pivotal role ensures alignment between digital strategy and delivery, managing projects that drive innovation, efficiency, and scientific advancement. You will report into the Senior Director, Digital Strategy and Delivery.
Your Responsibilities: Orchestrate Digital Delivery
You will be the operational engine for the R&D digital portfolio, ensuring strategic initiatives are executed effectively and deliver value.
Key Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Oversight: Manage the end-to-end R&D digital portfolio, including project prioritization, resource allocation, and performance tracking to ensure timely delivery of organizational goals.
- Strategic Alignment & Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D, IT, and Data Science teams to ensure digital initiatives align with strategic R&D objectives.
- Governance & Reporting: Facilitate governance processes (steering committees, investment reviews) and maintain portfolio dashboards, KPIs, and reports to keep senior leadership informed.
- Risk & Opportunity Management: Identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities across the portfolio, recommending mitigation strategies.
- Strategy Execution: Support the Digital Strategy Lead in translating the strategic vision into executable programs aligned with the digital roadmap.
- Methodology Standardization: Ensure consistent use of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and tools across all digital initiatives.
Your Skills & Experience: The Strategic Digital Leader
You are an experienced portfolio manager with a deep understanding of R&D processes and a passion for leveraging digital tools to accelerate science.
Essential:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in digital portfolio management, program management, or strategic planning within an R&D or innovation-driven environment (pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, life sciences).
- Proven experience managing complex, cross-functional portfolios, prioritizing competing initiatives, and managing senior stakeholder expectations.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional global teams.
